If you were standing here in 1562, you would have seen a windmill on top of the Castle mound!
After the castle fell into decay a windmill was built on top of the motte.
Records show this was built on top of ‘Castle Hill’ between 1561-2 by Nicholas Cutler on the orders of Lord Cornwallis.
It remained until it was demolished in 1844 by Sir Edward Kerrison.
